Same As It Ever Was” by Jenna Ruder
Pastel, 30” x 44”

Jenna Ruder is a high school art teacher, who, when not in the art room, can be found outside with her hands deep in dirt, food or paint; sometimes all together.

“This piece is from a series of drawings of old clothes: socks, shoes, dresses, gloves and, as of late, men’s jackets.  ‘Same As It Ever Was’ is inspired by David Byrne’s dramatic big coat in ‘Stop Making Sense’ and a jacket borrowed for far too long from Good and Sturdy Vintage. It hung in the corner of my little studio and had a life all its own from the very beginning. More from this series of work will be exhibited in the upcoming show 'Domestic Affairs' at the L.E. Phillips Memorial Public Library from Nov. 29 through Jan. 5.”  – The Artist

Volume One finds its cover art in a number of ways, from local art shows to random emails to knowing someone who knows someone who knows a great artist. The art always originates from a current or former Chippewa Valley resident. If you'd like to submit cover art, send us a letter
