Sayth Goes 90s in 'Rare Candy' Video

the Eau Claire rapper goes to Pokémon heaven, then to the mall

Eau Claire rapper Sayth – the moniker of Eric Wells – has put out a video for “Rare Candy,” a catchy tune off last year’s excellent Bad Habitat EP. Directed by Peter Eaton and Spencer Wells, the video is shot all around Eau Claire with Sayth and his crew of bored mallrats (including some familiar faces like Hannah Hebl, Addie Strei, and the Glassworks Improv boys) hopping around shops totally carefree. The video has already racked up a boatload of views on YouTube and some big attention from the likes of Impose Magazine, NewNowNext, and Logo TV. The 8-bit sample – ripped right from your Pokémon Red Version – underscores the hazy, pre-HD production as Sayth raps, as only he can, about trying to relieve the anxieties of adulthood with friends and fun. He rhymes “I’m less worried about killing raps to death / more worried about not not going in debt” as he and some pals squad up at mall on some lazy summer day, illustrating the beauty of Sayth’s aesthetic: Never compromise a good time or who you are. Watch out this summer as Sayth and futurebeat producer North House gear up a release that just might thrust him even further into the spotlight, where his words can truly resound.
