Skatin' the Dream

the Eau Claire Skaters Association is throwing all kinds of shows to help fund a new park

By Spring 2017, Boyd Park could have year-round skating capabilities. Beyond the ice skating community that already inhabits the park, the Eau Claire Skaters Association is championing the construction of a 5,000-square-foot skate park and has emboldened its fundraising campaign for spring and summer of this year. It’s projected that between $80,000 and $90,000 is needed to get wheels to grind on this new skate plaza. Through grant-writing and local benefit events, the ECSA is hoping to fortify our community’s skate interest with this new destination. Gabe Brummett, founder of the Eau Claire Skaters Association, reports: “Based on the populations of Eau Claire and Chippewa Falls there are up to 4,000 skateboarders in the two towns.” With linkage to the bike trail, it could be a family destination as well. In the coming months, there will be benefit shows at Playmakers, the House of Rock, and The Plus. Bands from Eau Claire, Ladysmith, LaCrosse, and the Twin Cities will be coming out to play with all proceeds going to the City of Eau Claire Community Parks Association Fund. Hometown band Stay Strong is working with ECSA’s Dandee Jorgensen on booking and promotions, as is Midwest Mayhem Promotions and Booking.
