Aero Flynn Signs to Dine Alone Records, Drops New Folky Song "Twist"
It seems to me that Josh Scott and Aero Flynn are having a pretty good year so far. Not only are they playing the highly-anticipated Eaux Claires Music & Arts Festival (get the full scoop on page 30), but they just dropped a new single, and signed to the Toronto-Nashville-Los Angeles-based record label, Dine Alone Records. The new signee is now part of a roster packed with other indie favorites like The Dodos, City and Colour, James Vincent McMorrow, Field Report and Sylvan Esso. They’re even in the company of some larger, more nationally renowned acts such as, The Lumineers, Jimmy Eat World, and Tokyo Police Club. Also, how many people can say that they’re label-mates with Marilyn Manson? Aero Flynn’s second single, “Twist,” from the upcoming, self-titled debut album, premiered on Stereogum Feb. 10. It combines the folky, acoustic finger-picking and falsetto vocals we’ve come to expect from Eau Claire-based artists with that perfect dash of weird. About a minute into the track, a funk-influenced guitar pluck emerges, slowly lifting the song from its folk roots and into a more upbeat, electronic groove. It’s new, it’s refreshing, it’s genre-bending, and, well, it’s just really cool. Be on the lookout for Aero Flynn’s debut album out March 10 on Ooh La La records.
