Chromebooks, iPads and Smart Boards, Oh My!

Barbara Arnold |

Thanks to a $20,000 donation from Royal Credit Union and some community grants, the Boys and Girls Club of the Greater Chippewa Valley has two new classrooms along with new technology to help its members study and learn in its after-school program. The Eau Claire club, 201 E. Lake St., now serves approximately 90 children in its after-school program, so with its own computer labs and online programs, space was tight. The after-school program focus is on the children getting their homework done with the coaching of volunteer tutors, many of them high school and college students. Having access to the Chromebooks and iPads in the new Academic Success Center will make a huge difference for the club members who do not have computers in their homes. The two new classrooms will also enable small group educational programs using the SMART Boards (interactive white boards) and one-on-one study sessions. The RCU funding came from the hundreds of people who ran and walked in the 2014 RCU Charity Classic last summer.
