“Cardinal Mist” by Mike Guite
acrylic on canvas 12” x 16”

Mike Guite is currently a graphic design student at UW-Stout. He enjoys designing as well as drawing and painting. He also likes to be outdoors.

“This piece was inspired by the beauty of cardinals in the winter and was created for a close friend. It differs from my normal artistic style, which usually consists of more realistic drawings with little to no abstraction. I have recently become more interested in working with color, along with using different techniques. This can be seen in ‘Cardinal Mist,’ where I used a toothbrush to splatter the paint. Being a young artist, my artistic style is constantly evolving, and with every day, I am pushing myself to become the best artist I can be.”  – The Artist

Volume One finds its cover art in a number of ways, from local art shows to random emails to knowing someone who knows someone who knows a great artist. The art always originates from a current or former Chippewa Valley resident. If you'd like to submit cover art, send us a letter.
