Last September’s “Standup Getdown” at the House of Rock proved to be a big hit for the Eau Claire stand-up comedy scene. With a huge lineup of comedians and several accompanying musical acts, the event drew a surprisingly large crowd, and left the city to wonder if it would ever happen again. “Standup Getdown II” answers the call on Feb. 7, once again at the House of Rock. The free event, consisting of a mash-up of live music and comedy, promises that this time around, it will be bigger, better ... and boozier. Jordan James, local comedian and event coordinator, was excited by the first show’s success and shed some light on the format. “We had done shows that had both music and comedy before but nothing as integrated as this format, which alternates rapidly between music and standup, and we’re all on the stage at the same time,” he said. “It isn’t a format I’ve really seen or heard of before, and I’d like to think we’ve built something pretty unique.” The comedians, mostly local, consist of Cullen Ryan, Justin Schenck, Christina Wolff, Ryan Kahl, Mackenzie Bublitz, Noah Fish, Peter Diedrick, Eric Christenson, Jordan James, and perhaps a few more names recognizable to those who frequent the Tuesday night open mic at The Plus. James said if all goes well, the Standup Getdown could become a biannual event, and he expressed some of his hopes for future shows. “If this next ‘Getdown’ is as well-attended and received as the first one, we’re hoping to establish the event as a twice-a-year tradition that happens early on in both the fall and spring semesters.” James said. The “Getdown” portion of the night will consist of musical performances by North House, Sayth, and Sloslylove.
