Downtown Eau Claire will be receiving a very special treat early next month. As part of their 2014 national tour, ’90s rock group Rusted Root will be performing Jan. 9 at the State Theatre. The famed group has released seven studio albums and sold over three millions records during their 20-plus years performing around the globe. Described as a fusion between rock and world music, Rusted Root is best known for hit singles like “Martyr,” “Ecstasy,” and especially “Send Me On My Way,” off their 1994 album, When I Woke. Originating out of Pittsburgh, Penn., the multi-instrument group includes six members and has toured with artists and groups such as Santana, The Dave Matthews Band, The Allman Brothers Band, Robert Plant, Jimmy Page, and others throughout the years. Since 2000, they’ve released three of their seven studio albums, along with a live concert album and a compilation as well. Their most recent, titled The Movement, was released in 2012. It has serious global percussion, a set of funky undertones, and core, central lyricism. Frontman Michael Glabicki, guitarist Patrick Norman, and percussionist Liz Berlin were the original three members of the group and are still affiliated today. Seven other musicians have come and gone, including early members like Jim Donavon, Jim DiSpirito, and John Buynak. Regardless, they better bring the noise as they celebrate the new year with the Chippewa Valley this winter.
