Fresh off a successful 2014 event, the organizers of the Chippewa Valley Book Festival aren’t resting on their literary laurels. They’ve already announced a headliner for their 2015 festival: internationally renowned Palestinian-American poet Naomi Shihab Nye. A self-described “wandering poet” based in Texas, Nye has spent nearly 40 years reading poetry and conducting workshops for writers around the world. She’s written or edited more than 30 books, including novels and many volumes of poetry, including 19 Varieties of Gazelle: Poems of the Middle East (a National Book Award finalist), A Maze Me: Poems for Girls, Red Suitcase, Words Under the Words, Fuel, and You & Yours. A winner of numerous awards for her writing, Nye received the prestigious Neustadt International Prize for Literature in 2013. She’ll kick off the region’s premiere celebration of the written word with a free public event on Oct. 15, 2015. To keep up to date with other festival announcements, visit www.cvbookfest.org.
