OakLeaf Surgical Hospital has officially relocated to a brand-spankin’-new 108,000-square-foot hospital just off U.S. 53 in Altoona’s River Prairie Development. The physician-owned hospital moved from its original location near Eau Claire’s Oakwood Mall to the new Altoona site in early September and held an open house in early October. With seven 600-square-foot operating suites, four procedure rooms, and 30 overnight rooms, OakLeaf performs more than 10,000 surgeries each year, which created a space crunch at the original facility, CEO Anne Hargrave-Thomas said in a press release. “Now, with more than double the rooms and almost triple the square footage, we can meet the needs of all patients requesting our services,” she added. Among other things, OakLeaf specializes in orthopedic and sports medicine, plastic and cosmetic surgery, podiatric surgery, vascular surgery, gynecology, ophthalmology, gastroenterology, otolaryngology, surgery, and urology. (That’s a lot of -ologies!) It also prides itself on luxuries like DVD players, fresh flowers, and “chef-inspired meals,” not to mention high nurse-to-patient ratios.
