This summer the Eau Claire YMCA has been getting artsy. Realizing that they already had quite a plethora of sports programs, the Y decided to add more arts programs this year. The new programs emphasize reading, visual arts, writing, and theater. One of the programs is called the Young Artists Studio, which is open to kids from ages nine to 12. The class started on June 27 and will finish Aug. 15, with a class every Friday afternoon. According to the Y, the class “is aimed at broadening your artistic horizons.” Jennifer Bradley, an art teacher for the Eau Claire school district at Putnam Heights Elementary, teaches the Young Artists Studio. The kids have done many different projects, such as landscapes and multimedia projects. In addition to the Young Artists Studio, the Y is offering “Summer Reading Club,” (which happens to be free), “Writer’s Voice: Summer Series,” “Science Rules,” and a theatre program called “Y-Rep Productions: Fractured Fairy Tales.”
