“Red Earth” by David Brock

David Brock did not believe chairs could fly until just now. And now he knows better.

“The painting ‘Red Earth’ manifested itself when I was working towards my MFA. As much of my previous work dealt with the simplification of the forms of the urban landscape, I came into a bit of quandary when I moved to Bowling Green, Ohio, since it resides in a very rural setting in northwestern Ohio. Thus, there was not great enclave of buildings for me to draw from. Instead, I looked at the location that surrounded me: the richness of the structure and formalized grid of the agricultural landscape. I still find much of my inspiration and vocabulary from this juxtaposition of natural and human-influenced landscapes as my work continues its evolution of reduction in form and hue.” – The Artist
