The former Whiskeys Grill and Bar in Altoona, which closed Jan. 25, has been remodeled and re-opened as an establishment designed to be more family-friendly: Pete’s Restaurant & Spirits, 943 Harlem St. Proprietor Pete Hebert hopes to change the joint’s reputation by serving up “traditional Midwest family cuisine with a hint of West Coast flair.” Appetizers include artichoke dip, loaded nachos, and fried mac and cheese. Pete’s also offers “two-handed” half-pound burgers, steak of all kinds, Italian dinners, and even breakfast. While Pete’s still contains a bar, it is only open to a modest 10pm on weeknights and 11pm on weekends, adding to an overall family-friendly atmosphere.
