From Harry Potter to magicians pulling rabbits out of their hats, we have all had a little magic in our lives whether or not we believe in it. Come March 21, Eau Claire is about to get a little mystical. Award-winning illusionists The Spencers will be performing a show reaching beyond the typical. “This really is all the great elements of a Broadway-style production with energy of a rock concert wrapped around some pretty phenomenal illusions. Many of these illusions were created for us or redesigned for us,” Kevin Spencer said. He grew up in the Midwest and has always had an interest in magic. “I saw a magician perform when I was a kid, and I remember telling my mom, ‘When I grow up, I am going to be a magician,’ ” Spencer said. Just like all performers, The Spencers have to be ready for something to go wrong. His wife, Cindy (who is also part of the performance), and the production crew have to have more than one backup plan to keep the show running smoothly. “It’s about thinking on your feet,” he said. “It happens not just with illusions, but so much of what we do has to do with people in the audience and you never know what is going to happen.” The show is designed for an adult audience, but people of all ages can enjoy the production. Spencer said he hasn’t performed in Eau Claire in eight to 10 years, and is very excited to come back and wow an audience once again. “Rarely do you think of magic as a performing art,” Spencer said.  “I am a firm believer that the art of illusion has the ability to challenge the audience both mentally and emotionally in the same way as great music or great dance.”
