If Downtown Eau Claire Inc. had a “Man of the Year” award, it likely would have gone to Zach Halmstad. The co-founder of JAMF Software won the Above and Beyond Award while his firm took Developer of the Year honors at DECI’s awards banquet Feb. 27. That’s as close to a sweep as you can get at an event that honored everything from a tie-die shop to a credit union. Halmstad, a UW-Eau Claire grad, has increased his profile in the past year with several projects, including JAMF’s new downtown office building (which is set to open later this year) and his property firm’s purchase of the former Ramada Inn Convention Center. DECI, a nonprofit group that boosts downtown businesses and culture, gave out 10 awards based on votes from almost 550 people. Other winners are as follows: Renovation of the Year, Children’s Museum of Eau Claire; Best New Business, A Fun Dye Factory; Best Annual Event, DECI’s International Fall Festival; Best in Customer Service (Downtown Restaurant), Houligans Steak & Seafood Pub; Best in Customer Service (Downtown Retail), A Fun Dye Factory; Best in Customer Service (Downtown Service Industry), Nicole’s Salon & Spa; DECI Member of the Year, RCU; and Volunteer of the Year, John Hegenbart of Upland Distributing.
