Music of America
Think you know the musical landscape of America? Well, the Chippewa Valley Symphony Orchestra will have you think again with its upcoming concert “American Music, Through the Years.” American music is as diverse and ever changing as our history, and our homegrown composers highlight that in their work, from classical symphonies to Broadway musicals, and from film scores to popular songs. The concert will be held 7:30pm Feb. 8 at the State Theatre in downtown Eau Claire. Conducted by our own Nobuyoshi Yasuda, this concert will feature Irving Berlin’s “Symphonic Portrait” and a little-known and rarely played George Gershwin piece called “Japanese.” Also included is Frank Proto’s “A Carmen Fantasy,” featuring guest soloist Robert Baca on trumpet. Works by Anderson, Arlen, Bernstein, Goldsmith, Mancini, and Williams will also be played. Tickets are $28 for adults, $25 for seniors, and $7 for kids under 16 and students.
