UW-Stout Professor Short-Listed for Artprize

“The World’s An Untranslatable Language II (for Charles Wright)” is the 3-D piece that UW-Stout art professor Charles Matson Lume entered in this year’s ArtPrize contest – a massive art competition based in Michigan. His piece uses mirrored paper propped off the ground with rolls of “Danger,” “No Trespassing,” “Caution Do Not Enter” and pink duct tape. Light is reflected off the paper and onto a gallery wall, creating beautiful lines and waves of light. Not only did Lume enter this piece into one of the most high-profile contests in the world (ArtPrize had a total prize purse of $560,000 and received over 1,500 entries from around the world), but his piece was shortlisted for the 3-D category. He was in the running for the $20,000 prize for that category, as well as other grand prizes, but unfortunately did not win. His entry can be viewed on his profile page at ArtPrize.org.
