“Lion Head” by Kim Vaughter
Pen and marker, 24”x36”, 2010

“I graduated with an art degree 16 months ago. It’s been a strange 16 months, without all the structure and crying of school. I found I needed a good eight months to not think about art.  I was still able to enjoy the idea of it, but I wasn’t actively making anything. Chalkfest rolled around in August, and I decided to (wo)man up and join in. I drew the lion head that is on the cover.  The atmosphere was incredible and positive and I remembered why I loved art in the first place. Being around so many creative ladies and gents helped rekindle the flame deep down in my belly of bellies to start doing and making and thinking again.” – The Artist

Volume One finds its cover art in a number of ways, from local art shows to random emails to knowing someone who knows someone who knows a great artist. The art always originates from a current or former Chippewa Valley resident. If you'd like to submit cover art, send us a letter.
