Cabaret XXXV
UW-Eau Claire’s annual cabaret celebrates 35 years
Happy birthday, Cabaret! UW-Eau Claire’s annual faculty-supervised, student-organized variety show celebrates its 35th anniversary this year with the theme “School Day.” Featuring five groups of student musicians, “Cabaret production has evolved into a year-round project with programming and copyright,” said Dr. Gary Schwartzhoff, music professor. “With the addition of the new (student center) building this year, the show is changing dramatically on the technical end in staging and lighting.” The show raises scholarship funds for UWEC music students and allows students in the music and theatre arts department a chance to create and lead a production. Since its beginning in 1978, it has raised more than $325,000. Cabaret XXXV will feature performances by The Singing Statesmen, Women’s Concert Chorale, Concert Choir, jazz ensembles, and the University Symphony Orchestra. Eight students are directing the show, which Schwartzhoff says “is set on an eight-period day and involves subjects studied in a regular day.” Whether you’re keen to reminisce about high school, looking forward to a fantastic UWEC musical production, or haven’t been on campus in a while, chances are you’ll love this year’s show. Cabaret XXXV will be presented at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 17-19 and Jan. 24-26 and also at 2 p.m. on Jan. 19 and 26. A dinner buffet and cash bar will be available before the Friday and Saturday evening performances in the Dulany Inn of Davies Center. The prices of dinner and show tickets differ from show-only tickets.
