Jazz On Tap
UWEC Jazz I joins forces with Lincoln Center Jazz man
UW-Eau Claire’s Jazz Ensemble I are going to be a-swingin’ Nov. 30 in Gantner Hall. The university group – often named the best in the Chippewa Valley – will be welcoming composer/performer/trumpeter Michael Phillip Mossman on stage and will be playing some of his own compositions. Mossman, who works with the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra, Lincoln Center Afro-Cuban Orchestra, the Carnegie Hall Jazz Ensemble and the Philadelphia Orchestra, broke it big in 1985 when he won an audition for Blue Note Records’ Young Lions Band. “Michael is one of the most well respected trumpet players/composers in the New York scene right now. “, says Robert Baca, director of the UW-Eau Claire’s Jazz Ensemble I. Along with Mossman’s pieces, Jazz I will be burning through a number of swing classics by Benny Goodman, the Dorsey Brothers and Lionel Hampton and some Christmas tunes to get you in the spirit.
