The University of Wisconsin-Madison Varsity Band is sure to put on an unforgettable show for the whole family. Directed by Professor Mike Leckrone for more than 40 years, the Badger Band’s tremendous reputation (consistently top three in the country) promises an extremely exciting concert. Even with only half of the 300-member band in attendance, their high energy, loud music, and unique entertainment will certainly not disappoint. With a wide variety of music specially arranged by Leckrone, audience members can expect to hear musical selections from That 70’s Show, Jersey Boys, An American in Paris, and a Las vegas-inspired medley featuring Elvis. In addition to these sure-to-be crowd pleasers, the Varsity Band will also be playing excerpts from the Broadway musical Porgy and Bess. If you’ve ever had the opportunity to attend a Badger Band concert, or if you have ever gone to a Badger game, you will be excited to know that there will be a little “Fifth Quarter” action coming to Eau Claire as well. During the “Fifth Quarter,” the Badger Band plays fan favorites such as On, Wisconsin, You’ve Said it All, and Varsity. (Jump Around is probably doubtful.) The Varsity Band concert, a mini-version of their annual Indoor Marching Band Concert, highlights the musicality of the Badger Band without the distractions caused by the commotion on the field. At this concert you will not just sit and listen; you will sing, you will dance, and you will even do the polka.
