Another Last Waltz
Thanksgiving Day tribute concert returns for seconds
The Band’s 1976 farewell concert, dubbed The Last Waltz, marked the end of their touring career. The concert was filmed and later turned into both a hit record and a documentary directed by Martin Scorsese in 1978. For the second time, a local group of musicians have taken on the ambitious task of recreating this important piece of musical history. These musicians, who call themselves Stage Fright after one of The Band’s early 70s albums, will perform the original set list from The Last Waltz at Eau Claire’s popular House of Rock on Thanksgiving Day. The Last Waltz took place 35 years ago (almost to the day of this year’s show), featured guest performances by well-known artists such as Joni Mitchell, Neil Young, Eric Clapton, and Ringo Starr. Now, local musicians, in cluding members of the Jim Pullman Band, Michael Rambo Project, Meridene, Sassy Magoo, and many more, will become these musical icons. Billy Angell (creator of the event), Levi Felling, Lucas Fischer, Jeremy Holt, and Eric Pierson will be portraying The Band. Songs include hits from The Band and singles from guest performers The Band had worked with in the past. After the success of last year’s show, the second annual Tribute to the Last Waltz is sure to be a hit. The $5 cover benefits Feed My People Food Bank.
