Found Footage Fest returns with Found Magazine in tow

This show promises hilarious videos, written notes, and a two-on-two battle of epic proportions between Found Footage Festival and Found Magazine, so it’s safe to say fans of comedy won’t want to miss it. With their similar missions and rise to cult fame, this pairing seems written in the stars. Found started as a Chicago zine of found love letters, grocery lists, homework, businesses postings, reminders, you name it. It has since grown in cult status to national distribution, a full book, and a sister mag, Dirty Found. Brothers Davy and Peter Rothbart have toured with their material for a decade, and their content even inspired a stage play. Nick Prueher and Joe Pickett, meanwhile, are known for found VHS gems of promos, instructionals, commercials, public access, workouts, home movies, you name it. Their Found Footage Festival is a bit younger (est. 2004), but is gaining momentum fast from national tours, DVD compilations, a book of VHS covers, and affiliation with The AV Club. Their sister project (of sorts) was the documentary Dirty Country, and one of their most famous videos inspired other filmmakers to create the doc Winnebago Man. Both have found and received content from all around the globe, and both have appeared on Late Night with David Letterman. This specific show will feature some old classics from both groups, as well as some new material. My bet is it’ll come down to which duo has better timing and delivery. But let’s face it, Joe and Nick have brought their show here five times and have local ties (UWEC grads). Those Rothbart kids got a tough road ahead, but everyone loves rooting for the underdog …
