Essentially Eau Claire
debut event highlights jaw-dropping local jazz talent
If you’re still in denial on the topic of Eau Claire’s incredible jazz reputation, let this debut event be the thing that finally convinces you. A posse of native musicians are all prepared to entertain, amaze, and fundraise for Essentially Eau Claire, including Grammy-nominated pianist and composer Geoffrey Keezer. DeLong Middle School teacher Dennis Luginbill describes the event as “a way for our students to learn from master musicians,” and hopes it can become an annual cornerstone of our jazz scene. Performing at the concert are the Old Abe Wind Ensemble directed by Eric Dasher, String Orchestra directed by Soma Pierce-Smith, Jazz Ensembles directed by Luginbill, South Middle School Jazz Ensemble directed by Lori Wolf, and UW-Eau Claire Jazz Ensemble directed by Robert Baca. Also performing is Memorial student vocalist Gina Cruciani as well as drummer and father of Geoffrey, Ron Keezer. Geoffrey is an Eau Claire native who has reached phenomenal success in his career as a pianist and composer, performing with the likes of Hollywood Bowl Orchestra, John Mauceri, Grammy-winning vocalist Diana Krall, and Okinawan singer Yasukatsu Oshima, just to name a few. All the proceeds for this event will help Eau Claire middle school instrumental music students. Tickets are available at Schmitt Music or Morgan Music.
