The flamboyant and whimsical designs, complete with Alice and Wonderland’s pink flamingos, Pinocchio’s patchwork jacket, a 16th century farthingale, a Chinese Emperor’s hat, raccoon masks, and frog eyes, are on display at the Mabel Tainter as part of the art exhibit, Crowns and Crows and Pinocchio’s Nose: The Artistry of Jean Biggs, Designer for Greenwood Players Children’s Theater. Jean Biggs is known for her artistic ingenuity in designing costumes and sets for the Greenwood, a Menomonie-based professional group of performers and artists that produced original shows and workshops for children from 1981 to 1996. Working on a modest budget, Briggs’ clever use of home fittings, adaptable costumes, and a glue gun created flexible and purely imaginative experiences. Children’s art inspired by the performances, video clips from the Players’ repertoire, and interviews with Briggs are also included in the exhibit.
