“In a dark world plagued by the filthy existence of a dark lord trying to conquer all the lands, the unsuspecting hero, Maximus Cypher, feels a strange tingle calling him to duty.” Well, that’s at least one idea of how to start your submission for the 24 Days of Film, a contest organized by Chippewa Valley Community Television, in accordance with this year’s theme – superheroes. With the chance to meet and greet Michael Uslan, the competition is expected to be fierce this year. Uslan is the infamous producer of the recent-era Batman films, working with both Tim Burton (Batman 1989) and Christopher Nolan (Batman Begins 2005). Starting Jan. 28, contestants better have their cameras rolling because they have only 24 days to finish. By Feb. 20, all contestants must have their film completed and dropped off at Community Television. The films will be screened and a winner will be announced during the awards ceremony in Davies Theatre on March 6 at 7pm. The top prize? A 30-minute consultation with Uslan (who will already be in town for an appearance at UWEC’s Forum Series). He and the winner will watch the winning film and discuss what it takes to produce a successful film. Don’t hang your head too low if you come up short on the scoresheet: as it turns out, all participants will be invited to a meet and greet with Uslan.
