“Lighthouse in Ink” by Odin Pitts

John Houseman

Odin Pitts
“My medium of choice today is pen and ink. The pen I use is called a sharpie. I’ve always felt the arrangement and designs in this medium differ from other ink drawings, and therefore may have more value in a fine art sense. I want to give thanks to supportive employment, which is a branch of Reach, because all my life I could draw up a storm but never found an outlet to display all my work. Thanks to this program, they are helping me find my way.” – The Artist

What we were thinking: “The lighthouse art chosen for this cover caught my eye as it was tediously created using very small swirls and squiggles. When you squint your eyes at the work winter nighttime colors come to mind which is what we were going for with our mid december issue. Even though the Chippewa Valley doesn't posses any lighthouses, I certainly enjoy  the small farm located near the bottom and the shoreline in the back. It actually reminds me of how I used to draw on all my folders in high school when I was supposed to be paying attention in class. But seriously ...

This piece was discovered one cold winter day as I strolled into Infinitea Teahouse in downtown Eau Claire. The artist had several other pieces hanging that day and this one made the cut.” – V1 Designer Josh Smeltzer
