The Band’s farewell show is a time capsule of talent, a celebration of musicianship and friendship. What eventually became a Martin Scorsese-directed film and a successful record, The Band’s Last Waltz has evolved into the epitome of a live clip show with its guest spots from Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton, Van Morrison, Neil Diamond, Muddy Waters, Dr. John, Joni Mitchell, Neil Young, and others. Thirty-four years to the day after the initial concert was held, Stage Fright (a band made up of Eau Claire music veterans, named after the Band’s 1970 studio release of the same name) will take the House of Rock stage and recreate the original set list, song by song. “To me The Last Waltz is a celebration of music,” said Billy Angell (who will be playing The Band’s Garth Hudson). “Within this one little [show] you have country, rock, Chicago style blues, bluegrass, Tin Pan Alley style singer/songwriter, gospel, and folk. All of it played by what were, and for a large part still are, some if the greatest names and talents ever.” Members of local groups Excellent Adventure, Meridene, Quinn Elizabeth, Jim Pullman Band, and Evergreen Grass Band (among many others) will share the communal stage for charity. “It all is going to be so much fun,” said Levi Felling (who will be playing The Band’s Levon Helm). “I’m really looking forward to playing with all of the guest artists. There will no doubt be some great spontaneous moments.” Proceeds go to benefit the Feed My People Food Bank.
