Menomonie Snowpark Devises WIntery Additions

Matt Ledger |

When the Dunn County SnowPark re-opens this winter, expect to see some changes. Three big additions will hopefully be made to the park before snow hits the ground later this year. The first is lighting: boarders, skiers, and sledders can expect to see six or seven of the old lights from downtown Menomonie dotting the park, allowing them to hit the hills well into the evening. The second big change will be jumps, ranging in height from 15 to 35 feet, and staging areas built out of dirt, which will lessen the need to move snow around to build terrain during the season. The third planned addition is a set of two tow ropes, one for the freestyle park and one for the tube lanes. However, according to SnowPark founder Christian Peterson, the tow ropes will be the most costly and difficult to approve addition and may not make it in this winter. All of the additions are, at this point, still pending final approval from the county, which is asking for the SnowPark to establish an SOP and an internal infrastructure to make decisions about the park and to communicate with the Facilities Committee. If you’d like to volunteer to help with construction or simply voice your support for the additions and the SnowPark, be sure to e-mail Christian at sfcwisconsin@gmail.com.
