Originally just a comment strand to a blog post, the Chippewa Valley Roller Girls have now become a full force to be reckoned with. These tough girls have already fought their way through their first two bouts and are always ambitiously challenging the community to get involved. Support the Roller Girls at the Eau Claire Sonic on June 5 from 5-10pm as they roll out the food at the drive-in (and take in 10% of the sales), then stuff your face June 11-13 from 10am-6pm at the Festival Foods Brat Stand on Mall Drive as they “grill on wheels.” Keep an eye out for other upcoming events and fundraisers including a Masquerade Ball (July 24 at Red Parrot) and possibly even a local bout. The Roller Girls are eager for your involvement, so throw out a hand if they skate your way!

In response to the growing call for downtown revitalization, Menomonie is seeking a plan for short- and long-term redevelopment. A community stakeholder group through UW-Stout is seeking a consultant capable of marketing, analyzing, and shaping a joint community and university image. Downtown improvement is sought to help encourage current and future businesses as well as to promote a communal and successful atmosphere that is attractive to all markets, residents, and visitors. The plan will join Stout with the city, county, local chamber, economic development corporation, and Main Street. For more info, see

Dog lovers and companions of man’s best friend, you have a new place to play. The Chippewa Falls Happy Tails Dog Park celebrates the opening of a new 50-acre off-leash dog park. Located next to South Avenue/Alexander Street/Highway 29, this park provides an accessible and secure place for canines. It is available thanks to (and will continue to be run by) volunteers, local business, and residential support. The “leash cutting” opening is on Saturday, June 12 at noon. Annual permits for licensed dogs are available through the Chippewa Falls Police Department and City Hall Parks and Rec, and daily passes are also available. So all you dog lovers, come out and play!
