Memorial High School’s Jazz Ensemble I is heading off to the highly regarded Essentially Ellington competition in New York … again! But before they do, they’re putting on their Evening of Jazz event. Taking place at the Moose Lodge, Jazz I, along with Jazz II and III – who will each play a dozen or so of their jazz and blues standards, plus a few jazz combos in between jazz ensembles – invite the public to dance to and enjoy the performances on May 15. The event is an effort to raise money for all MHS bands, and for the Essentially Ellington competition later this month. Bid on silent auction items donated by local artists and businesses, and snack on deli sandwiches and gourmet desserts. The proceeds of the event will feed the program that fosters these talented beyond-their-years musicians. This event also marks one of the last shows under the direction of Bruce Hering, before he leaves to teach at North High in the fall.
