Local Poets Earn Acclaim in Statewide Writing Contest
Every year, Wisconsin People & Ideas, a contemporary culture magazine, hosts a statewide poetry contest (this year, held in conjunction with the Wisconsin Book Festival) open to all Wisconsin residents and students, with an aim to bring out the very best of Wisconsin poets. This year’s submissions totaled out to more than 600 applicants, of which three where selected to be showcased in the magazine, and another 10 received nods as runners-up. Two local ladies were given the runners-up nod – V1’s very own Kinzy Janssen for her poem, Thoughts of Lace, and Menomonie’s Patricia Zontelli for her poem, The Birth Canal.
