Danceworks
UWEC’s incredible annual dance exhibition
Art gets really exciting when it bursts off a canvas and starts twirling around on stage. Every year, UW-Eau Claire puts on a dance show featuring the work of students, with this year featuring several pieces of modern dance, two jazz pieces, one tap piece, one contemporary ballet piece, and a contemporary jazz piece. All of them feature student dancers and all but one feature student choreography. Dance professor Toni Poll-Sorensen explained that this show is not a requirement, but something the students do out of passion for the art form. “I would use the same rationale for coming to this performance as reading a book,” she said enthusiastically. “You read to be intellectually stimulated and you should attend a dance concert for the same reason.” Dance Works runs March 18-20 in Kjer Theatre.
