Boot, scoot, Scandinavian couple dance!

With the Viennese Ball winking at you just two page turns of your calendar away, its time to dust off your dancing shoes and get practicing. Local couple Earl and Doann Holzman would be more than happy to show you some moves. After teaching Scandinavian folk dance together for 20 years, they can be found teaching lessons at Christ Church Cathedral in a large room with a scuffed up wooden floor and a bowl of chocolates. Focusing primarily on waltz, polka, and Schottische, the atmosphere is jovial, casual, and personable. Learn to spin and double-foot slap your way back to your Swedish roots or plant the seeds for some serious foot stomping, hair-flying Nordic folk dance skills. Normally, a group of six to eight people in jeans gather for a fun hour of lessons and practice. “At this point, we are a small group and would love to get bigger,” said Earl. You don’t need a partner, but shoes with no more than one-inch heels would be helpful. Stop by and check it out. V-Ball isn’t the only time to show off new moves. On March 20 there will be a lesson on English Country Dancing, and on April 10 there’s a live band with a caller and Scandinavian couple dancing to follow, both at the Christ Church.
