Ready, Set, Barstool!
Second annual Barstool Races come to Chippewa
Chippewa Falls’ Brown Hut Tavern is holding its second annual Barstool Races this month. You’re no doubt wondering what that is, but it’s exactly as it sounds. Contestants use skis and a barstool to make a self-propelling contraption and race down a hill. Their teammate can push them to a certain point, and then must let go and watch their partner race down the hill. Competitors who cross the median line or fall off their stool are disqualified. Bartender Chandra Steinke says she got the idea for the races from customers who went to similar events in Drummond and at The Kyote’s Den in Menomonie. Although the Drummond Bar Stool Races continue to be held annually, Kyote’s no longer holds them. “We got the idea because there are no fun activities that go on in the winter. We’ve got volleyball, kickball, and softball when it’s warmer, but nothing in the winter. So I brought it up to the owner and she said to go ahead and do it,” Steinke said. Last year, there were five sleds and over 100 spectators. This year, races are expected to be bigger and better. The prizes are awarded for the fastest sled and best in show. Rules and regulations are available at the tavern. For more information, contact Chandra at 579-1856.
