Children's Theatre channeling Lewis Carroll

For those of you who haven’t read the politically charged tale or caught one of the dozens of adaptations, the story of Alice in Wonderland is basically this: Alice grows bored of her sister’s droning tutorial and spots a formally dressed white rabbit race into a hole. She follows him and finds herself in a subterranean wonderland replete with condescending flora, mysterious personified animal characters, and a queen whose policy it is to behead the non-obsequious.
The upcoming Eau Claire Children’s Theatre’s production is based on the books by Lewis Carroll and features familiar songs from the 1951 Disney movie such as I’m Late and Happy Un-Birthday.
“The costuming is very colorful and creative, and has more hints of the Disney characters than the traditional drawings found in the classic book,” said Wayne Marek, ECCT’s executive director. “Plus, there is projection used during her fall down the rabbit hole, and lots of colorful oversized pieces on stage.”
As an added bonus to the stage production, there’s a Mad Hatter’s Tea Party for children and parents on February 13, at 11:30am, at the Ramada that includes lunch with Alice and her friends as well as the matinee show.
Those of you who haven’t ventured down the rabbit hole lately should take the opportunity to see this unique classic. Make it your pre-game for the Tim Burton version, due out in March.
