Found Footage Festival

FFF returns with a new round of awkwardly weird videos

Ian Jacoby |

Yep, that’s a Golden Girl surrounded by cats.

The guys who run the Found Footage Festival live in a weird world of rappin’ Jewish grannies, jingle cats, and cussing RV salesmen. Hosts Joe Pickett and Nick Prueher scour garage sales, discount stores, and bargain bins for videos that show the, um, other side of show business. The tour is sort of a medley, a pastiche of all the videos found since the previous tour with Pickett and Prueher riffing alongside the content (a la Mystery Science Theater 3000). And the result is awesome. Like, really awesome. I’ve never met anyone who came away from the show without at least one new catchphrase or impression. And, honestly, that’s part of the appeal. Fans of the Found Footage Festival are in the know, but it isn’t some sort of elitist, hipster club; it’s something that you want to share with everybody. The new tour features clips from Ed Asner (who evidently hates dogs), video dating from the 90s, and a whole slew of other clips dredged from the bottom of our cultural well. There really isn’t anything else to be said about these guys. They’re awesome; they’re funny; and they’re going to be in Eau Claire. I’m serious when I say that this may be the ONE event that excites me year in and year out. Oh, and there’s a guarantee of full frontal male nudity, so there’s that.
