It was just back in March when Laarks dropped their debut full-length on the region, sending hoards into a frenzy of listening and liking. An Exaltation of Laarks impressed many by showcasing not only the band’s brand of high-energy indie rock raveled in sincerity, but also its ability to mold and manipulate 10 songs into one solid 40-minute album full of clever production and crafty effects.
Now, five months later, the band’s hard work is coming to fruition in the shape of a record deal with one of the most well-known indie-rock labels in the business. Absolutely Kosher will soon announce Laarks as the newest member of its roster of roughly 45 bands, which already includes some big-time names like Xiu Xiu, +/-, Pinback, and Sunset Rubdown.
“Absolutely Kosher is a member of the largest distributor in the world,“ says Ian Jacoby, the band’s singer/keyboardist. “It’s actually pretty insane.”
The deal also includes a re-release of An Exaltation, which is expected sometime around the end of October, this time with the promotion of a respected label and with the option of vinyl pressing.
Jacoby says the re-release should prompt substantial touring opportunities, and with luck the possibility of some sort of nationwide presence. If the past few months are any indication, Laarks’ future could be impressively bright.
