There are artists around these parts, in case you didn’t know. The Chippewa Valley has quite the knack for displaying their local artists in places where local people can actually see them. On May 9, the Acoustic Café in Menomonie will continue that proud tradition by displaying works of Erik Christenson, Andrew Weidner, and Anna Kaiser. The opening reception (May 9, from 7-9pm) will be a display of illustrations and fine art, and kick starts a six-week exhibition. There will be free hors ‘d oeuvres and live music by Josiah Wordsworth. The show will be the first official gallery opening at the Menomonie Acoustic Café, and the artists are hoping to make it count. The show will run from 7-9 pm, leaving plenty of time before and after for art-related revelry. The unique art contains softly drawn people, adorable monsters with little beady eyes, and strange creatures with big noses and full heads of floppy hair. Erik has done illustrations and covers for Volume One in the past, and the walls will be likewise covered with the works of his friend Andrew Weidner and girlfriend Anna Kaiser, who did this issue’s cover.
