Celebrate, Inform, and Promote. Those are the goals of this year’s Eau Claire Community Earth Day Celebration, and organizers hope to achieve them with a day of local music, food, and fun at Eau Claire’s Owen Park. The park will host area musicians Jeff White, Billy Krause, Chuck Roll, Elizabeth Christianson, and Little Willie; there will also be family-friendly entertainment by David Stokes of the Frog Chorus as well as face painting and other kids’ activities. Older attendees can educate themselves by listening to local speakers and politicians discuss environmental issues or by browsing the exhibits of local businesses and organizations that are committed to environmentally responsible practices. “I think an Earth Day Celebration is great for the Chippewa Valley because no living things, including humans, can survive very long with out the Earth, so we need to understand the Earth and how our interactions with it affect it in order for us to be good stewards of it,” said Sarah Braun, Beaver Creek Reserve Citizen Science Director and one of the celebration’s planning committee members. “It’s always fun to gather with friends and be outside, socialize, and learn about the community, and the Earth Day celebration gives folks a chance to do all of those things!” The free event will occur no matter how Mother Nature chooses to celebrate the day – UWEC’s Haas Fine Arts Center will serve as an inclement weather location. The event also hopes to promote bicycling and cycling; any attendee can get their bike tuned up at no charge. “It’s a great way to learn new and exciting ways to enjoy and conserve nature for (and with) future generations,” stated Braun.
