Menomonie Artist Wins Book Arts Competition
Local artist Brianna Capra has been showing off her creative abilities. Capra recently won Best in Category: Painting and Drawing for a competition and exhibition at the Minnesota Center for Book Arts. Artists had a choice of five poems to illustrate. Capra was inspired to work with a poem entitled Princesses, because of her daughter, Iris, and many other feisty little girls she knows. For Capra, winning the competitive award was both a rewarding and hopeful experience, “winning … felt like a validating step toward my vision of being a successful children’s book illustrator.” A Menomonie native, Capra attended the Glasgow School of Art in Scotland, and received her BFA at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design. Her work largely consists of posters, logos, and album art. And now, with an award already behind her, hopefully in children’s books some day.
