Eat Local: I Triple Dog Dare You!

Trevor Kupfer |

Most of us have heard about the incredible benefits of purchasing local foods: it boosts the local economy, conserves fossil fuels, and increases personal health. Now it’s time to put those benefits to the test and rise to the occasion, as Eau Claire’s A Second Opinion magazine is once again challenging Chippewavallians to eat local for the month of September. The second annual Eat Local Challenge asks community members to solely eat foods grown and produced within 100 miles of their home. It may sound difficult, but the Valley has a robust farmers market scene, successful co-ops, and loads of food producers. So give it a shot, and while you eat think about the difference a simple meal makes. After you eat, share your progress or difficulties at www.eatlocalchallengecv.blogspot.com.
