Calling All Hobbyists
Perhaps it was for the sake of alliteration, but a far more likely reason for the inception of Active and Alive in Altoona was to recognize and promote the area's healthy hobbies. City officials are looking for groups, clubs, and organizations that would fall into this category and would be willing to attend the Sept. 7 event at Hobbes Ice Center. City Administrator Mike Golat said he hopes the event will include a diverse blend of hobbyists, from physical activities such as flyfishing and dancing to mental activities such as chess and crocheting. The free event will not only showcase the area's clubs, but also hopes to generate public interest and, in turn, increase membership.
