FOOD BANK EXTRA HUNGRY IN SUMMER MONTHS
Because of an increase in distribution, Feed My People Food Bank, which provides food for many hunger-relief agencies in west-central Wisconsin, is gearing up for a busy summer. While every year sees a seasonal jump, executive director Emily Moore expects a 50 percent increase this summer and a need for resources to keep the food coming in and going out. “If the need for food this summer reaches the seasonal increases that it has in the past, we want to be prepared to meet it,” says Moore. Care Full Chiropractic’s summer food drive through July 25 will help by offering free first day services to new patients who make an appointment and bring in five or more items or monetary donation for the Food Bank. These services include orthopedic and neurological exams, initial X-rays of the spine if needed, a health history consultation, and a report of findings. Call 514-1450.

COUNCIL ADDS SUSTAINABILITY TO EC COMPREHENSIVE PLAN
It’s official. Eau Claire takes on green. When the Eau Claire City Council approved a plan to amend the city’s Comprehensive Plan, they decided to include sustainability as a higher priority. “Going green” or sustainability, defined as meeting the people’s needs in the present without compromising the ability to meet future needs, has been successfully incorporated in other comprehensive plans in such cities as Madison and Minneapolis. This means that as City Council plans its use of everything from land and natural resources to transportation and community facilities, to historic and downtown preservation, it does so in terms of taking care of the environment and the community’s social needs. Discussions for energy efficiency plans are currently being organized for the public.
