The Lights at the Rotary Lights Display Are a Sight to Be Seen

Much like the Irvine Park lights display in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin, the Rotary Lights display in La Crosse puts the Griswold family’s light display to shame. So if you love holiday lights and sights but you also love your neighbors enough to not smother your house and yard in lights, then get your light fix by loading the kids into the Family Truckster for a day trip to La Crosse.

Started in 1995 by the area’s Rotary Clubs and supported by various non-profit groups, organizations, and individual sponsors, the park displays over 2 million lights starting on November 25 at 5pm and ending on New Years Eve. The event doesn’t just feature lights. It is also host to a kick-off parade on November 25 and an ugly sweater 5k Race on December 10 as well as musical performances scheduled throughout the holiday season, horse drawn carriage rides and even visits from Santa’s Reindeer and the Big Man himself starting on December 1.

The Rotary Lights of La Crosse are free to attend; however, donations are much appreciated as it helps to keep the lights on and the Coulee Region Food Shelves stocked. Many of the displays ranging in theme are dedicated to the memory of loved ones and significant people in the community. Each display commissioned is meant to tell a story special to the community in an interactive way.

Don’t forget to grab your winter coats, hats, mittens, and boots because the best way to enjoy the lights and displays is to walk (although driving is an option if needed). To help you check the weather conditions before you head out on your trip, call the Wisconsin DOT weather line by dialing 5-1-1 or go to 511wi.gov.
