Emily Portman, a Kentucky native, honed her musical talents in church and as a member of her high school band, drawing inspiration from classic country and rock, as well as '80s music. Her journey to prominence began when she covered Loretta Lynn's songs, earning acclaim for her uncanny vocal resemblance. Winning a "Sing Like" contest in 2004 further solidified her connection to Lynn's legacy. A pivotal moment arrived when Michael Twitty discovered her on YouTube, casting her as Lynn in the touring musical "It's Only Make Believe." This marked the beginning of her illustrious career, leading her to share stages with country music icons and form a close bond with Lynn herself. Following Lynn's passing, Portman joined forces with Loretta's longtime band, The Coalminers, to pay tribute to the legendary singer with "Always Loretta," an authorized show celebrating Lynn's life and music. The Coalminers, led by Dave Thornhill, boast a storied history of backing Lynn for over five decades, with members like Bob Hempker, Dennis Digby, Monty Parkey, Eric Kaberle, and vocalist Jean Anne Tarleton, each contributing their talents to perpetuate Lynn's legacy.
