The Heyde Center (3 S High St., Chippewa Falls) is bringing a community favorite back to the stage in November, Guys on Ice. Offering two performances on Nov. 15 and 16 (a matinee and an evening showing respectively), this theater production is a Wisconsin classic.

The name may be a bit misleading, but audiences will assure you that there is no figure skating in this performance. Instead, characters are decked out in snow gear in an ice fishing shed. “It’s a comedy with a great deal of music, the three main topics are ice fishing, Leinenkugel beer, and Green Bay Packers,” said Peter Danielson, who portrays Ernie the Moocher.

Peter, along with his four brothers Tim, Paul, Steve, and Phil, have been performing Guys on Ice since 2013, totaling five productions. “I think (this performance is) even better because it’s five brothers, so they already have inside jokes and are able to play off each other,” Heyde Center Executive Director Debra Johnson said.

Guys on Ice has been met with larger and larger audiences with each performance at the Heyde Center. “We keep bringing it back because it just reaches everyone … and then of course now that people know about it, people will come back to see it even though they’ve seen it once before,” Johnson said.

The Danielsons can’t get enough of the show, either. “We get a little smoother each time and we can add some little tweaks here and there when it comes to (Guys on Ice),” Danielson said. In one of their showings, a Packers playoff game occurred at the same time and the performers were able to incorporate live scores into the show.

The brothers even bring objects from their own homes to decorate the onstage shed for that true Wisconsin feel. Created in 1998 by Wisconsinite Fred Alley with music by James Kaplan, Guys on Ice turns familiar Wisconsin activities into a memorable performance.
