“Heron” by Sue Carey
mixed media: drawing and hot wax collage, 57”

Sue Carey is working to find her artistic voice after 34 years of helping others find theirs.

“When I retired from teaching elementary art in Eau Claire I knew I wanted to start creating my own art again. Even though I had thought about creating for years, I didn’t know what exactly I was going to do. Do I start where I left off or do I tackle a totally new approach? I was fortunate to be able to take a workshop from Lori Chilefone to learn the process of hot wax collage. Shortly after that I bought Rebecca Crowell’s book Cold Wax Medium. Those experiences were just what I needed to begin. My work was always intuitive. I have found that ideas that excited me years ago are still important to me today – the act of creating and how the work grows to reflect that process; creating a sense of space within the piece and taking inspiration from our natural world.” – The Artist

Volume One finds its cover art in a number of ways, from local art shows to random emails to knowing someone who knows someone who knows a great artist. The art always originates from a current or former Chippewa Valley resident. If you'd like to submit cover art, send us a message.
