In Red and orange early light
Coming from chores this morning,
I stopped as usual by the gate
To watch my roosters crowing.
"Eh-Eh-Ururr," they cried.
"Uh-Uh Eruuu," I answered back.
Our voices must have carried far,
For down the road a quarter mile
My neighbors daughter, Lisa Ann,
Her toys forgot on the kitchen floor,
Ran to the window on fat bare feet.
"Uu-Uuu,Uu-Uuuu," she said,
The sunlight on the frosty pane
Making her voice orange and red.
