Werthmann Gets Earthy Honor

V1 Staff |

Earth Day is just a few weeks away, so it’s an appropriate time to honor one of the Chippewa Valley’s most recognizable environmentalists. Eau Claire City Councilman Andrew Werthmann will receive the annual Earthgreen Award – which honors people or groups who have made a significant positive impact on the planet – from the Chippewa Valley Sierra Club on April 15. In addition to serving on the City Council, Werthmann works on issues of clean energy and agricultural pollution for the Pew Charitable Trusts. As part of the Sierra Club’s annual Gaylord Nelson Dinner, Werthmann will speak about sustainable food production, highlighting both the environmental toll of industrial agriculture and the possibility of moving farming in a more Earth-friendly direction. The dinner is at 6:30pm Tuesday, April 15, at First Congregational United Church of Christ, 310 Broadway St. Reservations are required by April 10, and the cost is $20 per person (or $15 per student).
